Ça me fait chier franchement.

On me l’a déjà dit celle là aussi.

How I choose my life coach training program

Life Coach training program
Aaahhhh finally I made THE move on the road of becoming a life coach ! I chose my training program. It’s iPec!
I took a lot of time assessing programs. It’s an important investment and a major step in my career as a life coach. I have a strong will to become a successful life coach but I lack the coaching skills. It took me two months to choose the best program for me. When I asked classmates, it also took them a lot of time choosing it. So let me explain here how I choose my training program.

I was looking for a life coach training program. I was disappointed that all the coach training in France are dedicated to corporate and/or executive coaching only. I wanted to find a good reputation and serious program that would help me build up my coaching skills and help me to become a life coach. Almost everyday, during two months, I was gathering information. I’ve even built a spreadsheets to compare them! So lost 🙂

My criteria

I shortlisted:
Coach U,
Coaches Training Institute (CTI),
The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC),
Martha Beck Life Coach Training,
International Coach Academy (ICA).

My dream job : Life coach

My ideal job

When I began to look for my ideal job, I was driven by the fact that I could not bare it any longer to be in a job that was frustrating me. I was lost and very unsatisfied, so I wanted to change and be more fulfilled.

I wanted a job that would put a smile on my face when I woke up and one where I would be excited to begin everyday. I would be excited to do everything I like and be frustrated only because I wouldn’t have enough time in a day to enjoy my passions.
I was looking for an ideal job; a job that would fit me and would allow me to make a difference.

I didn’t know how to choose because I didn’t know who I was. What was my perfect career/job? What job would fit who I am?

The big puzzle

Discovering myself was like assembling a big puzzle. The small pieces of the puzzle are all the aspects of myself that I didn’t know and what I’ve since discovered during my self development journey. Each piece was hidden in me. I was collecting them through my self discovery day after day, little by little.
Once that puzzle assembled, I finally see who I am. Here are the pieces of puzzle I gathered in a chronological order. You can follow my self-discovery how I experienced it 🙂

My transformational journey in life coaching

Last Saturday was my last session with my life coach, Celestine Chua. We did a wrap up and looked back at all the sessions. Here’s a brief sum up of my wins. I plan to develop each part in dedicated posts 🙂
I had my first session on the 12th of October 2014 and my last one the 7th of February 2015.

Before life coaching

My request was to change my career, find my life purpose and my passions. When I arrived at the first session, I was lost and very frustrated with my job. I was so clueless about how to find my passions and my perfect job. I was so scared to move on and change my job because I was afraid to lose the safe place that took so much effort to build.
Back then, when I finally had the courage to subscribe for life coaching, I chose her 8 session coaching program called “Holistic Transformational Coaching”. I was afraid that it would not be enough and I would need more sessions. It was hard to believe that my life could be transformed in only 8 sessions. Against my belief and all expectations, my life indeed changed and it was deeply transformational.

How to choose a life coach

25/01/2015

Keep-Calm-And-Find-A-Life-Coach
After I wrote an email to a life coach that my husband referred to me, I decided to meet different life coaches so I could compare their methods. I’ve talk to 6 life coaches and had several free coaching session to try. So let me explain how I choose my life coach.

What is a life coach?

A life coach is professional who will help you to achieve your goals and to create positive changes in your life (in relationships, life balance, time management, careers and so on) by helping you to discover yourself, by uncovering what’s holding you back, by challenging you to think bigger and by taking on real and concrete actions in your life.

Where to look for a life coach ?

Where? what are the criteria? I’ve never done that before and I’ve never heard of that. I asked my friend Google: Life coach Paris or coach de vie Paris. He didn’t find any interesting results.
Coaching/self development blog often advise to pick a coach who is credentialed by ICF International coaching Federation The coaches took a certified coach training and follow ICF core competencies. They have a directory of coaches.

My criteria

Self-development oriented
I’ve read few self developments books. I wanted to experiment and apply the concepts from self-help books. I needed my coach to be aligned with the concepts and ideas in the books. In France, coaches are often NLP practitioners or use transactional analysis. I don’t understand the benefit of those tools. I met a coach who advised me to stop reading self help books because I was over thinking according to her.

Get to know my coach
It was important that I know my coach before I contact them. I visited their blog/website and read through the blog to understand why they came to coaching. It was a way to get to know him/her better, to understand his/her style and see if it could fit me. Choose the life coach who makes you feel comfortable, it’s all about feeling. I am a passionate person. I need someone passionate by coaching, someone who is perfectly professional. I was craving for a passionate coach who truly believes in self-development and in coaching.
